50-Year-Old Substance Use Treatment Agency Expands in Middlebury
Akron, Oh., April 16, 2024-CHC proves that being half a century old doesn’t mean you slow down. The agency is based primarily at 725 E. Market Street acquired 745 E. Market St. in 2023, formerly the Spitzer Collision Center, to centralize its services and expand some of its high-demand programs. This project is decades in the making, with original plans calling for acreage outside the city to create an all-in-one campus of residential, medical, and outpatient services. Instead, CHC chose to stay in the Middlebury neighborhood on a main bus route to ensure access for those in need of care.
“We’ve been in the Middlebury neighborhood for 38 years. Expanding our footprint here is critical because this is where we’re needed most,” said Melissa Gannon, Chief Clinical Officer.
The new building will increase patient medical and pharmacy access and house the Ohio Multi-County Development Corporation, a housing agency that supports recovery, managed care housing initiatives, and long-term low-income housing throughout Northeast Ohio. Administrative staff scattered at three different locations around the city will also be centralized in the building, enabling the organization to increase collaboration and streamline processes. A large community space will be available for public reservation.
With this move, all CHC programs can respond to growing community needs. Touchstone, a unique partial hospitalization program for women, will be able to increase capacity. Expansions for Women’s Recovery and outpatient services are also planned.
“This project will maximize the space we have, enhance our programs, and help us serve more patients seeking recovery,” Melissa added.
This building is the start of renovations planned for the next few years to modernize the organization’s spaces.
